What kind of Projects are eligible for Legacy Funding?

The income from the St John’s Legacy Fund may be used for any purpose consistent with the mission of the Church, including but not limited to:

Mission is our “outreach” beyond the Church, for example: Parish and community projects consistent with the mission of St. John’s Truro.

Ministry– Program initiatives within the congregation.

Mortar – Enhancements to parish facilities and/or unbudgeted maintenance of buildings and grounds.

Applications also considered would be those that address extraordinary needs. For example,

emergency funds required by circumstances falling outside of annual Parish budgeting.

Who can apply?

Any Parish group or committee or external group approved by the St. John’s Parish Executive.

How do we/I apply?

Completion of a Legacy Fund application form identifying the application group or committee including its contacts, the purpose of the project must be stated, the amount of funding required, and the expected outcomes or benefits of the project.

When can we/I apply?

Applications may be received at any time during the year, however Legacy funds are not available until shortly after the end of the calendar year.

How much money is available?

The annual money available through the St. John’s Legacy Fund is limited by the net returns on the Fund. Net returns on the Legacy Fund available in any given year will vary based on money market returns.

How soon will we know if our project is approved?

Applications are reviewed by members of the St. John’s Finance Committee for submission to St. John’s Parish Council. Only after Finance has recommended and Parish Council has approved the application, is the money dispersed. Normally Funds would be paid out early in a new year.

What if our project is spread over more than one year?

Legacy project funding is for one year only and another application would be required for the next or subsequent years.

Does the Legacy Fund limit itself to one project per year?

No, one or more projects may be funded in any calendar year. However, Legacy Fund spending may not exceed the accumulated net income of the Fund hence the ability to support multiple projects will vary by Fund income. As the Legacy Fund grows, its ability to support larger and/or more projects would also grow.
